NEW SS800 TOUR
|

Myself and Rory Cobbe are getting to do an exhibition of photography and music. We're calling it the "THRIFT STORE ETIQUETTE EP" and it will opened by Donal Dineen in the Triskel Arts Centre on Fri 15th of Feb. Stanley Super 800 will also be playing. If you're on the mailing list you've been mailed asking to notify us if you can come along. Here's the blurb from the flyer:
15 Feb - 29 March 2008
A collaboration of audio and photography between Cork musician Stanley Super 800 and TV director Rory Cobbe. With secondhand shops as the inspiration the final piece will be exhibited in two forms.
Exhibition Space
A representation of a secondhand shop made up of objects bought during a photo shoot in various secondhand shops in Cork over a four week period and sound tracked by recycled "second hand" music.
Head Space
A downloadable audio visual stream of the music and photography for mp3 players and computers available at www.triskelartcentre.com and www.secondhandculture.com
Electric Avenue Waterford Fri 8th Feb 08
There was a Jinx Lennon and SS800 gig in the Kings, Waterford in 2003. It was our meeting with Jinx Lennon & Paula Flynn. Since then we've all been dedicated fans. They collaborated with us on our first album, we've done many gigs together and we said we better take it back once more to the town where our friendship was born. Good ol Deice.. Its our first gig in ages - we'll be shitting it..

Great News. We've been nominated for the "CHOICE MUSIC PRIZE". We're chuffed but not too surprised as we've always thought Louder & Clearer deserves inclusion on the shortlist at least - can't really see us winning but your mind would wander to thinking how the 10grand could be blown.
So a big welcome to all you new visitors to our site. Have a look around and feel free to contact us on info@stanleysuper800.com or join the mailing list. If you fancy picking up a copy of the album you can get it over the net from roadrecs.com or by walking into your local record shop and asking for it. Our distributors are a little low in stock at the moment but they placed a large order with us after the announcement so any shortage will be rectified by mid next week at latest. Check it out - we know you'll like it :)
We'll be announcing some dates, a single, interviews and appearences from here over the next few days.
Here's some more positive quotes about LOUDER & CLEARER
"Stanley Super 800 are a rare gem of a band - I love them! Their album 'Louder & Clearer' probably won't sell millions; but who cares, it's excellent."
Dan Hegarty, RTE 2fm
"LOUDER & CLEARER is a massively enjoyable album"
4/5 IRISH INDEPENDENT
louder & clearer is presently being printed for the second time. We're sorry if some of you have found it difficult to get a copy in the shops. We do know that you can get it in PLUGD Records in Cork and in ROAD Records in Dublin. ROAD are also selling it on their site roadrecs.com and here's what they've said about it:
the second album from this cork based outfit who are now on the excellent irish label sofa records, the album featuring to totally catchy gatecrashing single along with twelve more slices of clever indie rock sounds, these guys have a superb knack of gelling subtle electronic beats with chunky synth sounds and classic laid back indie rock, there are bits of everything from beck to super furry animals to sebadoh to the electronic heavy sounds of schneider tm, the album is simply packed with catchy singalong summer songs with lots of clever twists, october 2007
thanks lads
if cork or dublin is too far drop in to your local music store and tell them to order it from the distributers RMG.

New album in shops fri 12th Oct
Louder & Clearer is available at your local music store from Fri 12th of October. Its great to finally get it out. We won't be doing any touring with this until the new year - due to the impending expansion of the Super 800 family :) Here's some nice things that have been said about the album:
"Sterling pop chops.......where demented low fi, rag time weirdness and
experimentalism flourish. Stanley Super 800 channel the universal underdog."
8/10 HOT PRESS
“The first album to stake its claim for next year's Choice Music Award comes from on-fire Leesiders Stanley Super 800, who have delivered one of the Irish albums of 2007, no matter what ensues between now and December 31.”
Mark Kavanagh, Music editor, Irish Daily Star
“Plugging everything from Trance to Super Furries quirkiness to Ramones-y intensity into its' personal power grid, 'Louder and Clearer' revels in its' diversity and is frequently totally sublime." – Tim Peacock (Whisperin' & Hollerin)
“Louder and Clearer is another melting pot of ideas, creativity, soul and downright dance appeal from the unique talent that is Stanley Super 800. Up there with the most innovative and imaginative releases from an Irish act in years.” - Michael Carr, The Green Room, 96FM

Coming out of hiding ~
December 14, 2006
:: The next SS800 album is finally been finished. We've been locked in the studio with Stockholm based producer Mark O'Sullivan for the last two weeks. Mark worked on the final mixing and the general sound of all the new material we recorded over the last year. I'm refusing to listen to it again for the next few days as I intend on sleeping alot but when I last heard it after leving the studio on the shitty stereo in the van it sounded great even to tired ears. We hope to bring you you previews of some of the 11 tracks from myspace.com/stanleysuper800 - probably from the 18/19th Dec. If you'd like to get info on our producer check out myspace.com/markdk7. Also if you're in the rebel city over Xmas come along and hear uz at the Half Moon Theatre on the 29th. Details below ::

Last Days of Shabby Road
We're sad to announce that our Shabby Road Studios are to close at the end of this month. We've had our band flat in the disused bus garage at Shabby Road since 2002. Everything we've done was recorded there, it was also used by Waiting Room to record the drums for "Catering for Headphone". We will be installing our gear at a new secret location outside Cork city which will be known as "The Coach House" .
September
September was really quiet. We've been getting ready to do the last big recording session of the next album. There's three songs left to be recorded in full and the its finished. There'll probably be a few over dubs to do and the mixing and mastering and the some more mixing and the more mastering. It's due for release in March 07 on Sofa Records.
We've three show coming up in October. For information on them click on the gigs link above...

Stanley Super 800 will be back in Whelans, Dublin on Friday 15th July. Its our first trip to the capitol since April. So if you're looking for something fab to do come along. We'll be trying out new material from our forthcoming album. Our buddies Long Lost Brother will be doing their thing too. Should be a thrilling night overall.
Pine Lodge, Myrtleville are holding their annual Beerfest over the August bank holiday weekend. There'll be loads of international beers to get sozzled on and some great sounds to stagger around to. We'll be there on the Sunday night (31st). Come along and join all the Pine Lodge crazies for another pumping night of SS800 mayhem. Adm Free.
Some of you may know that we are recording a new album at the moment. So just letting you know that like everything we have recorded in the past this project too is experiencing some delays. Its the fucking drums. Its so hard to capture a strong drum sound that it looks like we're better off putting off the release date until we get everything perfect. So instead of October we're now looking at Feb 06, but that could all be back on track by next month. Watch this space.
Last year we played in the Vic in Tramore for the Trafest. This year we got to be the last band on the outdoor stage. It was the most fun we've had in a long time. One of the band had nearly lost an eye the night before and was in agony before the gig, but that was soon forgotten. Dave was missing overseas so Flor played drums and the mighty Pady Tech jumped in on Bass. Everyone looked amazingly cool because of our new sponsorship deal with Armani Sunglasses. Thanks to the organisers and all those who danced for us - and Fred for warming the crowd up.
The
Spiegaltent(pic on right)is going to be in Cork at the end
of June and
we've been invited do a gig there on Saturday 18th. The
platinium selling JAPE also sharing
the bill. To hear some JAPE and a few Stanley Super 800 tunes
on RADIO
THIEF FM(p3). It will be a great bill in very special setting. Doors are at 7pm - first band on at 8 and everything finished at 10 - Adm is €10.
The other thing about the Spiegeltent gigs is that because the festival were granted a club license for these events, people have to be members to attend. This means buying your tickets 24 hours in advance. This is actually an interesting news story about the licensing laws that have impacted on the festival. Anyway, all people need to know is that to go to any of the gigs in the Spiegeltent they need to buy their tickets 24 hours in advance. Booking is on 1890 200 555 or in person at Festival House, 15 Grand Parade
We're
finally making it down to Limerick again on Fri the 24th to
play in the Trinity Rooms. Heard that its a nice venue -
its got to be better than the stage covered in shit that we nearly played
on in UL a few months ago.
- May 11, 2005 -
We won't be playing again for a while - at least til next month see gigs. We're going to be too busy
finishing off material for the next album. It will be released in October and should feature about 10 all new tracks. Here's a list of some of the more interesting working titles: The Beast of the Bach Boys, Taking the Horse to France, The Assholes Guide to Song Writing, No Plan B, Night Breed, Gatecrashing. These have all been hanging around in the bowels of the band and we're going to do some serious irragating to serve them fresh up to you. If you want to read more about all this, there's alot about it in a recent interview we've done for the Whisperinandhollerin.com website - see below.
Interview and Review

Here are links to a very recent interview and review on the whisperinandhollerin.com site. There is also a review of the Cork launch night if you have a look around. Its a great site full of great information about bands from here and abroad.

The Tour Continues
- May 5, 2005 -
![]()
We have three gigs left in our present tour. They are:
Thurs 5th Roisin Dubh, Galway - Doors 8.30
Fri 6th Axis Mundi, Waterford - Midnight
Sat 7th DeBarra's Clonakilty
Its been going really well so far and we'd like to thank everyone who came along
or bought the EP. We have to apologise to the people of Limerick for not doing
either of the two gigs planned. When we showed up for the gig in UL the stage
was literally covered in shit, so we refused to play. Then the High Stool closed
down,we only found out a few days before. And sorry to anyone who was expecting
to see us at Tower Records - we were plagued by energy vampires after a hectic
week of playing and carousing. The highlight so far was probably the reunion
with Jinx Lennon and Paula Flynn in Dundalk for an earsplitting version of "Revenge
of the Vinegarman" and also Club Head BAng BAng in Tralee - great spot see links
page.
April 05 ~
2-HOURS-LATE-ep RELEASE + TOUR

Stanley Super 800's new 2 hours late ep will be in shops on April 1st. It features four new recordings and an out-take from the SS800 album. The lead track is a rocky reworking of "Its All over now". There's a new song about the hard and ceaseless work done by the band called "Over and Over". This also appeared on a compilation by Sofa Records called "Music for People with Long Ears" - see sofarecords.ie There a song called "Borange" - about how SS800 saved the world - :). "Voices in the Music [katoustic devolopment]" is the out-take from the album. Its a slightly different version to the one that appeared on th Freakscene "Cork is an anagram of Rock" last year. The EP ends with an instrumental called "Harmonics" which should be farmiliar to anyone whose seen the live show. You can sample some short previews on the Music page.
There will be a tour to promote the release. Here are the dates so far:
